This is my favorite series by this author (with these 4 brothers Rafe, Kade, Jeb, and Holt). I have read this book probably at least 10 times. It doesn't get old to me. The writing is clever and witty. It's funny, infuriating, sweet, and romantic. The characters have so much depth and charm. Miller does such a great job of writing the chemistry between Rafe and Emmeline. Rafe is so macho and rough and rowdy, but can be so sweet and tender (basically what we all hope for in a man!). Emmeline is so strongwilled and full of spunk. I really connected with her! They have such a beautiful story and I loved seeing the family dynamics unfold throughout this series. These are my favorite McKettrick men and I hope one day it will be translated to film!Tags : High Country Bride (The McKettrick Series #1) [Linda Lael Miller] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. High Country Bride The McKettrick Series #1 Linda Lael Miller 9780743422734 Books Reviews
i haven't sat down with a REALLY good read in ages, especially a long, heartwarming story. I found The Outlaw christmas in my local bookstore and didn't expect much but I was very pleasantly surprised. So I went in search of some kindle books by this author as I had just bought a so I could read at night without having a light on while the kids are watching TV. I love series books so I chose to read this one first. I loved it so much. I don't normally read books from this era but I am now a convert. The characters in this book are so wonderfully rich and endearing. The rivalry between the brothers is so real and engaging. Angus their father is wonderful as well as the housekeeper. But the main love story of this book is just beautiful. You fall in love with everyone reading this book and though it was a long read when I got to the end I was like, wow, is that it? But what happens to..... What happens to this person? Where did this person go? So Second Hand Bride is already on my kindle and it's time to read all about Jeb's journey into love. It sounds like a real corker. Thanks Linda for a wonderful heartwarming story in High Country Bride. I am now an addict!!
I am barely into the first chapter of the first book and I am doubled over laughing. How in the world Ms Miller can think of her descriptions is beyond me. I love her books. All of them, especially those written with a 19th century genre.
I have read all of Linda Lael Miller's Mckettericks books more than once. This is my forth reading of this book. I have some memory problems so with each book I remember some but not all of the story. These stories of her's are my favorites. Don't care much for her Big Sky stories,,sorry Linda Lael Miller. I'll forever love her stories. She is the only author out of the 5 I read that I've read more than once. Christine Feehan,,John Sanford,,Lynsay Sands,,J.R.Ward,,all read once. Linda Lael Miller is the only one,,please don't quit with the Mckettericks,,
Oh the fun of a mail order bride and the dirty little secret that the bride grooms brother is holding close to his heart. Rafe has a temper and Emmaline is just innocent enough to believe that she is a sinner.. Laughs a million, heartaches by the dozen and love by the bushel.
If you are a western and cowboy aficionado as am I, you will enjoy the four novels which introduce you to the McKettrick clan. This first novel is really the only one which truly concentrates on a romantic relationship--the others have lots of adventure and drama mixed with romance.
Rafe and Emmaline are the first couple to meet Angus McKettric'ks challenge to his sons to marry and give him some grandchildren. The prize in this competition is the family homestead. Rafe sent for a mail-order bride which turned out to be Emmaline who arrives with a number of secrets. How these secrets emerge and how Rafe and Emmaline end up in love rather than just a arranged marriage is the crux of this novel. Of course a number of other characters are introduced including a brother, Holt, from Angus's first marriage. This brings about some interesting interactions between the males of the story which are downright humorous.
Emmeline is the young lady from the big city that signs up to be a mail order bride after she's decided that she's compromised herself. Leaving her home and her family behind in a somewhat strange display of stubbornness our young heroine takes the journey out to Arizona to meet a man's she never met and signs up to be his bride. Despite the fact that his advertisement states plainly that his bride must want children, and soon, she seems insulted and surprised when she shows up and is treated like a brood mare. Rafe does expect to make children and quick and, no, he doesn't carry tender feelings for the young miss he's never met. (Why would he yet?)
Getting through this awkward and unnecessary beginning starts the actual story which really involves no more than the young miss being frightened that her compromising past has caught up to her and that she might lose Rafe. (Though I was rather disappointed that her past situation wasn't cleared up to her after, ahem, it was proven that she was indeed a lady.... you read me?) In this case she seemed as dull-witted as her husband.
There are some cute moments here and some charming characters (loved Dad Angus and the maid...) but overall the story was too forced. In order to write a novel with the story line involved the writer had to both dumb the hero and heroine down and make them incredibly pig-headed. Because most of the "obstacles" could have been cleared up by either conversation or an observation.
But I was rather taken with the sexy younger brothers of Rafe who always seemed to figure things out before he did. So I'm definitely going to give their stories a chance.
First........ The cover that is shown here is NOT the one ℹ️ received!!! ℹ️ wanted the cover of the book shown above as it was an original. Also the shape is NOT good!! The pages are so yellow and bent it is so disturbing this amazing book by such a talented author was not taken care of! This book listed as in GOOD condition....... ummmm ℹ️ wouldn’t even consider this as Fair condition it is POOR!! It would not let me submit this review without a star rating 🙄 but it doesn’t even deserve one!!
